Against the backdrop of artificial intelligence advancing at an unprecedented pace, the challenges and opportunities facing the research community extend well beyond technological innovation alone. To showcase the latest advances in machine learning and machine intelligence, exchange academic ideas, and jointly explore the emerging challenges in this rapidly evolving field, the 9th International Conference on Machine Learning and Machine Intelligence (MLMI 2026) was held in Tokyo, Japan, from July 17 to 20, 2026. The conference was organized by Rikkyo University, Japan. MLMI 2026 brought together leading researchers, academics, and industry professionals to explore the latest advancements in machine learning and machine intelligence.

On the morning of July 18, the conference officially commenced. The opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Yen-Wei Chen from Ritsumeikan University, Japan. Prof. Yasunobu Uchiyama from Rikkyo University, Japan, delivered the welcome address, extending a warm welcome to experts and scholars from around the world and expressing the hope that the conference would further promote international academic exchange and cooperation. Prof. Yen-Wei Chen then delivered the opening remarks, expressing sincere appreciation to all individuals and organizations that had continuously supported the development of the MLMI conference series and highlighting the significance of the event.

The keynote session featured presentations by three internationally renowned scholars: Prof. Dapeng Wu (IEEE Fellow) of City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China; Prof. Xudong Jiang (IEEE Fellow) of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Prof. Minghua Chen (IEEE Fellow) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, China, who shared their latest research achievements and insights in the field of artificial intelligence.
